The owners of Carlton terrace asked for a break from the past. They looked forward to new spaces filled with natural light, all year round living, and the ability to connect visually with their surrounds. The local street character reveals rows of terrace houses, snug tightly alongside each other. Properties are narrow in width and short in depth. With the standard kitchen, dining and living space requirements, together with an ambitious 4 bedrooms and 2 x bathrooms, the challenge of going “up a level” and addressing the overlooking and overshadowing of neighbors cannot be underestimated.ApproachFor Carlton Terrace, we set out to explore contrasts in volume and texture.Save this picture!© Michael KaiVolumeOur approach was to first create a light and airy, open ground floor plane, with a bold volume above. At ground level, we outline a continuous space from the kitchen to a “green wall” externally. With the space being visually continuous inside and out, each side of the façade benefits from connection to the other. In contrast, the upper-level form is created from the want for appropriate space requirements, rubbing up against the need for sunlight into the north facing windows of the adjacent property to the south.TextureThe monolithic, upper-level form is articulated with a fine patterning of neatly seamed flat locked panels. Contrast this with the delicate, but sharp, screen elements pinned off the façade by a neat gap. Internally, the main space is accentuated with ribbed walls on one side, and a smooth Venetian render, inside and out, on the other.Save this picture!© Michael KaiSave this picture!SectionDesign ElementsWithout resorting to frosted glass and a sill height above 1700mm, a large upper-level window dominates the rear façade. The screen to the window serves the functional requirement of allowing long and short range views from inside the main bedroom and adds a lightness externally. The screen is made from a galvanized ladder frame, clad with single dot perforated flat plate aluminum. The aluminum is held off the main façade to add to the lightness to the otherwise heavy volume.MaterialsIn the wet area, the owners wanted a robust, yet restrained palette. Long lasting and natural in tone. The extensive use of long sheet porcelain for the splashback, benchtops, TV unit and outside bench reveal and versatile material quick to blend in with its context. Internally, polished concrete floors and porcelain tiles wrap up the robust and low maintenance palette.Save this picture!© Michael KaiProject gallerySee allShow lessGolnan Puratos Complex / A1ArchitectureSelected ProjectsBill Gates Purchases 25,000 Acres of Land for Smart City in ArizonaArchitecture News Sharecenter_img ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/883524/carlton-terrace-windust-architects-x-interiors Clipboard Houses “COPY” 2017 ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/883524/carlton-terrace-windust-architects-x-interiors Clipboard ArchDaily Anthony Windust, Junko Windust, Scott Durie Photographs:  Michael Kai Manufacturers Brands with products used in this architecture project Lead Architects: CopyHouses, Extension•Carlton, Australia CopyAbout this officeWindust Architects x InteriorsOfficeFollowProductsGlassSteelConcrete#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesRefurbishmentExtensionCarltonAustraliaPublished on November 14, 2017Cite: “Carlton Terrace / Windust Architects x Interiors” 14 Nov 2017. NBBF Secures $12m League Deal

first_imgThe federation’s Marketing Consultant, Kunle Raji, described the deal with an undisclosed global firm as the biggest in the history of basketball in Nigeria.Indications are strong that the sponsorship will solely be for the men’s basketball league as MultiChoice which sponsored DSTV Basketball League until last year, is yet to make a renewal following the expiration of the four-year deal in December.Apart from that, Raji similarly disclosed that NBBF board headed by Tijjani Umar, has severed relations with Nike as the national team kit sponsors.A Chinese firm, Peak, has now been confirmed as the new kit providers for the national teams.Raji said the value of the uniform that Peak will supply is more than the cash incentives which they would provide the federation.Under the agreement, the Chinese sportswear firm will complete the NBBF Secretariat under construction in Abuja and will be granted the exclusive naming rights for the structure. They will also set up a shop where they will sell their merchandise.Raji added that Peak, already in the first year of the contract, would provide additional cash incentives for D’ Tigers by paying the team bonuses when they get to the quarter finals of major international events like Afrobasket, Olympic Games and FIBA World Championship.Another consultant contacted by the Nigerian federation, Yinka Abioye, said that a new mascot will be created for D’ Tigers, while the official national basketball supporters club will be established. He said the move is part of the five-year strategic blueprint from 2016-2021 that will lead to Nigeria attaining the status of regional leadership in the continent.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram To re-launch D’Tigers’ mascotOlawale Ajimotokan in AbujaThe Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) monday announced it has secured a $12 million sponsorship package for the local league. The deal which is for five years was unfolded when the basketball stakeholders gathered for its Annual General Meeting in Abuja.last_img read more
