ATHLETICS: MARY MC LOONE WINS DOUBLE GOLD AT NATIONAL SENIORS IN SANTRY

first_imgATHLETICS NEWS:Tir Chonaill AC, multi International athlete Mary Mc Loone, with a double victory in the Long and Triple Jump, in Santry on Saturday and Sunday, was the star performer of the Irish Senior Track and Field championships. The talented, Gweebarra native primary school teacher, has dominated Irish women’s triple jumping over the last decade, won her 10th National title on Saturday afternoon with a best of 12,73metres and followed up on Sunday with a number of plus 6metres long jumps to claim a second gold.Conal McMahon, made it a memorable weekend for the club when he got out to 14.47m, a new county record, and a bronze medal winning performance in the men’s triple jump. Geraldine Stewart, in  a most competitive, Shot competition finished 5th with a best of 12.17metres.Karl Griffin, moving down to the 400m, qualified for Sunday s final with a PB time of 48.13secs .In the best race of the championships – the first three were quaranteed places on the Irish 4 x 400m team for the upcoming World c/ships in Bejing, Karl finished 7th in another PB time of 48.10secs.Best wishes to the Irish team that departs today for the World T&F chips in Bejing.
