New Bowl Projection For Michigan State Heading Into Saturday’s Action

Let’s take a look at the latest regarding where Michigan State football could land.It wasn’t a banner season for the Spartans. The team had some nice wins over Penn State and Purdue, but failed to beat rivals Michigan and Ohio State, each of whom took home double-digit wins in East Lansing. They also fell to upstart Nebraska a few weeks ago.The Spartans will be behind Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and likely Big Ten West champion Northwestern in the bowl pecking order. They’ll be jockeying with teams like Wisconsin, Purdue, and Iowa for spots.A new bowl projection as Michigan State football heading down to Tampa for the Outback Bowl.On Friday, Sports Illustrated’s Eric Single released a new set of bowl projections. He projected that the Spartans would head to the Outback Bowl to face No. 18 Mississippi State out of the SEC.The Big Ten bowl situation largely depends on what happens in tonight’s championship game, and tomorrow’s College Football Playoff selection.Ohio State remains alive for a CFP bid, but needs some help to leap over Georgia, which is a big underdog to Alabama tonight, and Oklahoma, which is in a dogfight with rival Texas at the moment. If Ohio State makes the field, Michigan probably moves up to the Rose Bowl, and it could open up some other options.Single’s projections have Ohio State missing the Playoff and heading to the Rose Bowl, with Michigan going to the Peach Bowl, Penn State to the Citrus bowl, and Northwestern in the TaxSlayer Bowl.The Outback Bowl will be played at noon on January 1 at Raymond James Stadium.
