Army called to Cavan school over unstable chemical

first_imgAN ARMY BOMB disposal team made safe an unstable chemical at a school in Cavan Town this evening.The unit was deployed following a request from Gardaí after a quantity of unstable Dinitrophenylhydrazine was discovered during a routine audit in a Loreto College laboratory.The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived on the scene at 5pm and it was declared a safe area by 6pm. The chemical was removed and made safe through a controlled explosion at a different location.Dinitrophenylhydrazine is a chemical re-agent routinely used in laboratories around the country but it can become unstable over time.A Defence Force EOD Team completed a similar task yesterday morning in a school in Carrigaline, Cork.last_img
